I have really enjoyed the CD's from Lighthouse but Swimming Upstream blew me away! I was not familiar with Stephen Ray but will now seek to hear a many of his lectures as possible! Wow, what an amazing, thought-provoking topic! Ordinarily once I listen to a CD, I send it along to my sister who lives across the country. But she isn't getting my copy of this! We see our culture crumbling and don't realize this is the same type of culture the early Christians faced.They turned the tide because they were willing to embrace their faith all the time especially when challenged.We don't value our faith because we have never been taught it correctly by those in authority, our parents, our nuns, our priests. Or it is so watered down that our faith is not worth embracing. We don't know we can change the culture tide by opposing it with courage. I enjoyed this talk because it discusses the current culture in our world. Just as the early christians were tested and many martyred, we will also one day likely be made to choose to follow Jesus and die or deny Him. This man knows how to catch people's attention. I left the cd in my car so my 27 yr. old son and his girlfriend could listen to it. Also plan to use parts of it with my 8th grade CCD. Thank you for reinspiring me to talk about my love of our Lord. Since I listened to this last week, I connected with a couple young men who go to a bible college in a town where I was working. They are going on the internet to look up a few things we talked about. Also, in another town where I was a few days later, an older man came up and asked me a few questions. Turns out he's a pastor and had noticed by my mannerisms that I was someone he wanted to visit with. He encouraged me to develop my public speaking, which has been something I am doing, as scared as I am about it.
